Being Ian

This morning I took Ian out of the van when we got to day care and asked if he was ready to walk into daycare on his own.  Lately he has been wanting to be carried a lot, but the kid is 30 pounds and my back needs a little break!  I hoped he would want to walk on his own today.

I was shocked when Ian nodded yes to my question and started to walk up the driveway, before turning and saying "Bye Mom" with a wave.

He was going to literally walk in all by himself.  What a big boy!

Reading

Ian got a really cool new book from my parents friends Arnie and Linda.  This book is interactive and will read the story as you turn the pages.  Ian loves it.

Monday I stayed home with Ian because he was sick the night before and we wanted to make sure he wasn't coming down with something.  Chris ended up coming home from work too, but wasn't feeling too great himself. Ian was feeling fine most of the day, then toward the late afternoon I started feeling sick also.  Thankfully it was a short bug and none of us were that sick.

During the afternoon Ian was sitting in the recliner with his new book, and I could hear it reading to him and the sound that indicates it is time to turn the page.  After a few pages I could hear that he stopped turning the pages.  I looked up to find that he fell asleep reading.  Chris got a couple pictures of him napping in the chair.  We left him there and he napped for nearly two hours.

Cute

A few things that Ian does that are cute:

When we go out to breakfast (a weekend tradition) I usually have to take Ian into the bathroom to clean up afterward.  He loves toast with jelly and half the jelly usually stays on his face.  The restaurant's music is louder in the bathroom, and since it is clearer for Ian he usually does a little dance along with the music.  This past weekend there was some in the stall who got to enjoy his little floor show.

Since I have been sick recently with a cough, anytime I have a coughing fit Ian tries to make sure I am ok.

Cough, cough, cough
Mom, you ok? You ok Mom?

When Ian wants to get picked up he says "I carry you?"  That might be my favorite thing he says and I will miss it so much when he gets bigger and asks correctly.  Yes, Ian you carry me.  On my worst days having you carries me through.

Eye of the Storm

022111 011

This little monster is pretty proud of himself for destroying my living room with a toy tornado.  He really has it down to record time now too.  One afternoon and it is a mess to end all messes.

I do like to have him play where I can keep an eye on him though.

This morning we had a half snow day, so I had some time before going into work at noon to do housework.  While Chris was out dealing with the snow, I was folding laundry and cleaning.  Ian was watching, you guessed it, Toy Story and playing with his toys.  When I went to clear off the table, after finishing the laundry, I found a pile of outlet covers.  Horrified I asked Ian where they came from and he ran over to the nearest outlet and pointed at it.

HE TOOK OUT ALL THE OUTLET COVERS IN THE LIVING ROOM!!!

(Yes all CAPS was nesessary! I was pretty much about to have a heart attack.)

So I guess he is at that age where not even a couple minutes to put away some laundry is safe anymore.

I can't believe our little pug sausage is 5 years old already.  Look at that little, graying face!  After all these years he has calmed down so much, but goodness if someone comes to visit or he is in the mood he can still be as wild and crazy as he was as a pup.

Happy Birthday Sir Mason Snortsalot!  (yeah, that is actually his registered name...poor dog.)
