Hair Cut, Well Almost

Last night after dinner I planned to take Ian to get a haircut. Chris was working late because it is move it week at the university and thus is extremely busy on campus. Ian and I had dinner together; scrambled eggs, toast, and banana. I got Ian all cleaned up and his diaper changed before we headed out the door.

Once we arrived at the salon we sat waiting our turn. It didn't take long but it was long enough that Ian got bored so I helped him walk around the waiting area until we were called back.

Once it was finally Ian's turn the stylist got me in a cape, and Ian on my lap in his very own little cape with bears on it. She wet down his hair and combed it while we discussed what I wanted her to do.

At this point Ian decided enough was enough and started to though the biggest fit he has ever put on in public. He thrashed around on my lap and darn near slide to the floor because of the slippery cape. I tried everything in my bag of tricks to get him to calm down enough to at least get the hair covering his ears trimmed up a little. He would not have it.

The stylist helped me remove my cape and Ian's and I apologized about 10 times for wasting her time and told her we would be back another day to try again. She probably sighed from relief when we got out the door.

By the time I got Ian strapped into his car seat he was fine and happy again. His long, wet hair combed straight forward into his eyes was a reminder to me of how embarrassed I was by his little scene.

We went home and Ian played happily on the floor while I patted myself on the back, welcoming myself officially to the motherhood club. Now that my kid has embarrassed me in public I am surely welcome in the clubhouse now.
