Work Hard, Play Hard

This week started out with Chris out of town for training in Chicago.  I would have loved it if Ian and I could have went with him to enjoy the city while Chris was in his training all day but I didn't have the vacation time.

So Ian and I hung out for two nights on our own.  That means I got 100% of the snuggles and 100% of the play time fun...and also 100% of the fussing but that was no worse than usual.  We played in Ian's room with some toys he isn't usually allowed to play with because they are for older children.  Mr. Potato Head was one of them.
Ian took to Mr. Potato Head pretty well, but needed a lot of help getting the parts on and off but really enjoyed when I put them on the wrong way (ears where the eyes go, tongue as a nose, etc.)
It was so much fun playing and having Ian's undivided attention.
Well most of his attention anyway.  He had to check out the neighbors playing basketball.
Then we got out the matchbox cars that Grandpa Tony got for Ian the day he was born.  They are usually off limits because they are heavy and could really do some damage if thrown.  But it was a special day and I was with him the whole time...so I let him play.
They were a hit, and Ian was even making the Vroom car noises as he rolled them around.
When Daddy was back on Wednesday Ian was pretty much stuck to his hip.  He wanted all Daddy all the time.  Tuesday night just before bed I asked Ian, "Do you want to call Daddy to say goodnight?" and it suddenly occurred to Ian that his Daddy wasn't around and he cried.  Once he calmed down we called Daddy to say goodnight.  Chris arrived home late and Ian was asleep and got to wake up to Daddy being home.

I managed to catch Ian throwing books...not that he is allowed to do that.  I just thought the mid-air books looked cool in the picture.

Daddy and Ian played hard Wednesday night.  Chris hid in Ian's tent and Ian got to find him.  It was cute watching Ian try to figure out how to work himself in there with Daddy.  It was even cuter watching Daddy try to get back out of the tent.
I got a baby kiss on camera.  Oh how precious getting a kiss from Ian is; there is nothing more slobbery/snotty or more heartwarming than a baby kiss.
Chris' parents came for a little visit on Saturday.  Grandpa and Daddy were on the floor being Ian's jungle gyms for a little bit.  Then Ian had to take a little break.  He ran around playing hard.  Grandma brought him bubbles and he got to chase bubbles in the yard for the first time.
Daddy bought some cream horns (a treat he recalls his grandpa loving) and we gave one to Ian.  He of course dove in nose first and ended up with it all over his face.
Sunday morning we had Dan, Chantel and Isabelle over for breakfast and a play date.  Chris made up a nice breakfast for us all and then we played until the kids were tired out.  Isabelle loved getting a chance to try out new toys...much to Ian's disappointment.  He is still having a bit of a sharing issue but we are working on it.
Chantel and Isabelle playing with the jack in the box.  Isabelle also loved the car you shake to make it go.  I would shake it up and she would crawl after it.
Meanwhile the guys were playing on the other side of the room.  We love having other friends over for play dates, and Ian needs the practice in sharing.  It was a great start to the day.
After a long morning playing hard Ian zonked out in Chris' arms and was placed on the couch for a nap.  I sat next to him for a while and he moved around to snuggle me.  It was so nice having a peaceful snuggle with him.  I am soaking up all the cuddles I can before he grows up and thinks I am lame and uncool.
